From spreadsheets to ERP: a readiness checklist for Ethiopian SMEs

Moving from spreadsheets to ERP should start with readiness, not pressure. The business should first identify which records need stronger control, which departments suffer most from duplication or delay, who will own decisions during implementation, and what level of process standardization the company is ready to accept.

It also helps to decide whether the first target is financial visibility, stock control, HR discipline, or a broader multi-department rollout. A phased approach is often more stable than trying to automate everything at once.

Readiness does not mean waiting for perfection. It means creating enough clarity for the ERP environment to land on firmer operational ground.
